We Make It Sound Distinct!
Drum loops are great for adding texture and background but if you use full loops your limited in what you can actually do in the mixing stage with panning, volume, EQ, effect sends and more. Today I share how I use Ableton’s clip automation to slice up loops and give me more control in the mixing stage.
This week I’m going to share a new favorite plug in of my called Kick Tweak by Singomakers. It’s basically a kick drum enhancer, but it can do much more. I’m not typically a fan of the “one knob” style plug-ins and although this isn’t quite a one knob unit, it’s limiting features pack a punch.

Following up from our video on gain staging last week I discuss the various types of Pro Tools meters available. One client of mine did not know that you can switch these meter types and it can be handy if you’re used to working in the older style or need to change for various reasons.
This week we are going to discuss gain staging and why this is the most critical thing you need to pay attention to. I had a big discussion with one of my clients about this so I created this video. The tricky thing is gain staging applies literally everywhere, from recording, to mixing and mastering. I discuss and share examples of how you need to properly gain stage in your DAW and what you need to do before sending your tracks for mastering so your gain staging is proper.

If you work in the industry you may already know this but not everyone understands the fine details. These days in the music industry you can wear many hats!
Touching back on the subject of why volume is important I go into a bit more detail about how your monitoring levels can affect your perception. We’re almost in 2022 and this week I am sharing the best free reverb plugins for vocals! If you’re looking for some budget reverbs there’s some really good ones in here. I personally use a lot of paid reverbs but I was impressed after digging through some of these free options whats out there.
