Transforming Vocals and Instruments with IK Multimedia ReSing: A Hands-On Demo

Reshaping Audio with IK Multimedia ReSing: My First Demo

If you’ve ever wished you could radically reshape a vocal—or push an instrument into new territory—IK Multimedia ReSing might be the plugin you’ve been waiting for. In this post, I’m sharing my first hands-on demo with ReSing, showing exactly how I used it to transform not just vocals, but also horns and synths for creative production effects.

What Is IK Multimedia ReSing?

ReSing isn’t just another stem separation tool; it’s an AI-powered modeler designed to let you completely reinvent audio sources. Load up a vocal (or any instrument), choose from a wide variety of model “characters,” and quickly morph the tone, accent, pitch, and even the overall vibe of the sound. You can apply everything from subtle tweaks (think brightening up a dull line) to extreme transformations (turning a vocal into a trumpet or an entirely new timbre).

Core Features That Stood Out

Once I loaded a vocal line into ReSing, the interface made it easy to browse through dozens of preloaded character models—everything from classic pop/jazz voices to wild synthesized options, and even instruments and drums. You get detailed controls for transpose, pitch, and character, which is where the real magic happens.

Want the source to sound more lively, smooth, or energetic? It’s a simple slider. Need to quickly adjust the gender or pitch range? Done. There’s also an “accent” area, where you can blend between using the original source’s inflection or letting the model take over—great for tweaking performance realism, or for creative sound design.

Effects and Processing Tips

One thing I quickly discovered: ReSing includes a full effects section, so you can add reverb, apply pitch correction, compress or gate your signal, and tackle sibilance with a built-in de-esser. I tested whether it was better to de-ess before or after feeding vocals to the modeler. In general, I found cleaning up the vocal first gave me a slightly more natural result—but your mileage may vary depending on the material.

You can also shape the output’s contour, dialing in more “air” or “body” depending on what your mix needs. Once you’re happy with the result, you simply hit process and drag the new file right into your DAW—no fuss.

Blending, Fusion, and Experiments

A big highlight for me was experimenting with blending two different models using ReSing’s fusion function. I loaded two contrasting character models and mixed between them—there’s some trial and error, but when you hit the sweet spot, the results can be seriously unique.

This isn’t just limited to vocals—ReSing actually includes instrument, drum, and percussion models too. I threw an amateur trumpet recording into the plugin and got some wild, unexpected textures, especially after playing with tuning and effects. The same approach worked on synth lines and drum snippets for instant remixes.

Workflow Impressions and Creative Uses

Here’s my honest take: ReSing is less about clinical “fixing” and more about creative exploration. It’s perfect if you want to audition new vocal “performers,” remix with synthetic vocals, or quickly test how a melody line would sound as a different instrument. It does have a learning curve, and results can be very experimental, but that’s exactly where you’ll find a lot of the fun.

If you’re aiming for perfection or speed, it might not always be the best tool for quick-turnaround projects. But when you’re deep in the production or arrangement stage and want fresh inspiration, it’s a blast to feed samples or stems through the modeler and hear what happens.

Wrapping Up: Should You Try ReSing?

If you’re into sound design, experimental production, or remixing, IK Multimedia ReSing is well worth a test drive. My advice: clean up your audio beforehand, experiment with model blending, and save your favorites for future projects. I’ll be taking a closer look at the custom modeler and more advanced vocal use cases in an upcoming video—let me know what you want to see next!
